Scholarship Search Resources
Finding scholarships doesn’t have to be stressful! There are tons of opportunities out there, and the right resources can help you discover awards that fit your goals, interests, and financial needs. Check out these trusted programs and websites, including Washington-specific options and national scholarship search tools, to start building your “free money” plan for college.
theWashBoard.org is a free scholarship search engine designed specifically for Washington students. It connects students of all backgrounds with Washington-based scholarship providers, making it easier to find awards that fit your profile. By entering your information once, theWashBoard.org matches you with scholarships that are right for you—whether you plan to attend college in-state or out-of-state. The platform is completely spam-free and will never sell your information, helping you save time and focus on applying for scholarships that can help pay for college.
College Bound helps eligible Washington students access college tuition assistance through the Washington College Grant (WA Grant). Students who meet program requirements can receive funding that may cover full tuition at a public college in Washington—or an equivalent amount at an approved private college or career school. The exact amount depends on family income, household size, and the cost of the school. To participate, students must apply for financial aid and attend a college or career school that is part of the College Bound program. While many students may have tuition fully covered, other costs such as fees, room and board, or books may not be included.
Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) helps make out-of-state college more affordable. Going to college outside your home state can be expensive—sometimes up to three times the cost of attending a school in-state. Established in 1987, WUE allows students from the WICHE region to access hundreds of undergraduate programs at reduced tuition rates. Participating schools charge no more than 150% of the resident tuition rate, helping students minimize debt while exploring higher education opportunities beyond their home state. Today, over 170 public colleges and universities participate in WUE, offering these discounted rates to qualifying students.
