SALES: Yearbooks are pre-ordered from the publisher in the fall, and we do not have the capacity to order additional books. Once yearbooks sell out, they are gone. All book and advertisement sales are final. Once a book has been manipulated (written in or otherwise altered), no refund will be given. Damaged books will be exchanged (only if the damage is the fault of the printer, and not the student).
SENIOR TRIBUTES: All senior tribute purchases are final. All information (photos and messages) in a senior tribute must adhere to CKSD policies for appropriateness. No photos or messages may contain nudity (including partial), explicit messages, or references to drugs, alcohol, or weapons. Photos or messages containing disparaging or discriminatory phrases will not be accepted.
DISTRIBUTION: The ASB office keeps a record of every yearbook that is purchased. Yearbooks will be distributed over the course of several days and may be picked up during the student's assigned lunch. Students who do not attend distribution days or who do not attend campus during lunch times may pick up their yearbook from the ASB office during regular school hours. Each student must sign for their book when it's picked up. A book will not be distributed to anyone whose name is not on the list. In order to pick up a book for another person, you must either be their parent or guardian or the student you are picking up for must email their permission to the ASB bookkeeper beforehand. Before writing in the book, students should make sure all pages are present, none torn, falling out or upside down, and no other damage is present. Once a book has been written in or otherwise altered by the student, it cannot be exchanged or returned.
Please remember the Echo yearbook is produced entirely by students in the yearbook class in a learning situation. We are responsible for layout, copy and picture selection on each page. Our pages are sent to the publisher “camera ready,” which means that photos, copy, captions and headlines are done at school. Given the limitations of time and budget, it is our goal to give fair and equal coverage to all aspects of school life, August through early April, which is our final deadline for a June distribution.
There are, however, some things over which we have little or no control: pictures that don’t print as well as they appeared on screen, changed dates, cancelled dates, students who missed all school picture days due to absences, or items such as senior portraits, baby photos, or quotes not submitted by the deadline.
Consequently, any omissions or errors are purely accidental and are no way intentional on the part of the yearbook staff, the adviser or the printer.
Finally, every page is proofread at least three times before being sent to the printer. We deeply regret any misspelled words, missing punctuation, misspelled names (and beat ourselves up about it) and offer our very sincere apologies to anyone affected. Again, it is a student-run publication.
RETRACTION POLICY: Mistakes and errors in the yearbook are virtually impossible to correct after printing. Only serious errors that would involve a lawsuit or other serious legal issues will be corrected. The manner of their correction will be discussed with the principal at that time.
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE: No senior tributes will be placed in the yearbook until payment is made. No yearbook will be distributed to a student without payment. If a check written for a yearbook is returned, then we reserve the right to hold that yearbook until payment is made. If payment is not made, we reserve the right to sell that book to another customer.
NAME & CLASSIFICATION: The yearbook will use only the official names and classifications (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.) provided to us by the office at the end of October. Students who wish to use a preferred name (not a nickname) may speak with their counselor. Students who use nicknames may expect to be listed under their official name, but may be listed under their 'nickname' if it was used by a group sponsor.
IMAGE MANIPULATION: The yearbook staff of CKHS will not engage in digital image manipulation in order to change facts, libel someone or alter reality. Photos may be touched up for presentation, lightened, darkened or otherwise made presentable for publication. Images may be cut out or isolated, but the policy of the staff is that any manipulation or use of a student's image MUST be done in as tasteful a way as possible.
HAND GESTURES: No hand gestures are permitted in photos placed in the yearbook. Use of a hand gesture in a photo will exclude the photo from being placed into the yearbook.
SPORTS & CLUB COVERAGE: The yearbook staff will make every effort to include every club, organization and sports team at CKHS, but they must make an effort to work within the deadlines of our production schedule. Each club advisor and president will receive a link to a Google Drive folder to add photos taken throughout the year. It is the responsibility of the club to ensure photos are added to the club's Drive folder by the deadline. Yearbook staffers will also endeavor to attend club meetings to take additional photos and a group photo. It is important that club advisors/presidents respond to any email communications from the yearbook staff or adviser in a timely manner in order to facilitate coverage. Clubs should provide the staff with a minimum of ten days notice of their events or provide the yearbook with photos of their events via the Drive folder. (This however, does not guarantee that we will cover these events or publish the pictures in the book.) Club advisors/presidents should add to each photo in the Driver folder a comment that has a brief caption and the first and last names of each person in the photo (left to right, back to front if rows).
CONTENT: The Echo staff reserves the right to determine the coverage and design of every layout. The yearbook is the product of the staff. Per the Student Press Rights Law of Washington State, students in media programs may determine the content of the student publication, in accordance with the law and CKSD board policy. It is the job of the adviser to offer guidance, make suggestions, and ensure student-created content follows the law; ultimately, students make the final decision about all content.
