It is your responsibility to back up your work on a daily basis. This drive will be your backup drive at home using Apple Time Machine. This drive is for your backups only and should not be used for anything else. It is expected that you can restore all of your work from the Time Machine backup if your laptop needs to be re-imaged.
As your laptop will be utilized for a great deal of schoolwork, containing important files and data that will be necessary for your academic success, it is important to keep these files safe and accessible. "My laptop crashed” cannot be an excuse for missing assignments. When you backup your files, you are storing your files separately from your computer, ensuring they are secure should something happen to the computer.

Digital Citizenship is crucial for navigating the digital world, confidently, safely, responsibly, and with integrity. With the widespread use of technology among young children, it is essential to equip ourselves with the knowledge and skills to use technology positively and avoid online risks. Our curriculum is built using the CIS Mission and Core Values as its foundation and the ISTE Digital Citizenship Standards, and the Common Sense Digital Citizenship curriculum as guides.
Digital citizenship refers to the responsible use of technology, including the internet, social media, and other digital tools. The six key topics and what will be able to do with each include:
Media balance and well-being: to develop healthy media habits and reduce screen time.
Privacy and security: to protect personal information and avoid online risks.
Digital footprint and identity: to create a positive profile and manage online reputation.
Relationships and communication: to develop empathy and respect for others.
Cyberbullying, digital drama, and hate speech: to identify cyberbullying and promote positive digital behavior.
News and media literacy: to develop critical thinking skills, evaluate information and recognize fake news.
Lessons are thoughtfully integrated into content subject lessons and advisory with the support of all staff so lessons are purposeful and impactful. Reach out to us at sec-ict@cis.edu.hk for our full curriculum.

Rm 714, the Art Classroom
Rm 723, the Publications Office
From your MacBook, a print job can be sent and retrieved from any of these locations by tapping your student ID card on any card reader attached to a printer.
You can help by canceling any unneeded print jobs once they are sent to the queue by following these instructions.
CIS strives to be a green school and reduce our carbon footprint and paper usage so please only print necessary items. To help, your printing is managed by a quota system.
If you have questions about your quota, visit one of the Ed Tech Coaches or Tech Help team members in room 425.
In addition to your MacBook, you may choose to bring to school additional devices such as smartphones, tablets, watches, etc. While such use is only permitted with teacher permission, CIS does not provide tech support for these devices and will not maintain, troubleshoot, or install software on them. Internet access is available through the “CIS” WiFi network using your unique WIFI password.
The Responsible Use Policy applies to using these devices on campus and includes bans on peer-to-peer file sharing, bullying and gaming.

In our experience, families who have implemented a family media agreement have the least amount of issues around screen time. Agreements should affect ALL members of the household - adults and children.
Both parent/s and child/ren should watch this video (10 min) for support around the discussions and work that must take place before creating a family media agreement. Have paper and pencils ready as you'll be creating your family media agreement.
Keeping your laptop safe and secure is important not only for your education but also for CIS as a whole. Ensuring the operational efficiency of your laptop requires you to safeguard your laptop from any potential cyber-threats, because a compromised laptop can pose a threat to the entire network. The functionality of your computer is your responsibility and as such you must take precautions against any possible cyber-attacks and intrusion.
You are also responsible for protecting the computer from physical threats. Never leave your computer unattended or take your computer into environments that may prove harmful.

Filtering The Internet contains a lot of harmful content which children should not be exposed to, especially at a young age. At CIS, we use a web content filtering service from OpenDNS. It allows us to select specific categories that will be made available at school as well as allow us to whitelist (allow) and blacklist (block) specific websites. OpenDNS has a home service as well which can be used to filter your network and protect all devices from harmful content. To read more you can click on this link.
Lost Laptops If you lose your laptop, you are expected to report the loss as soon as possible to the Student Affairs Office (room 331). They will contact the Education Technology Coaches, ICT Help and relevant staff asking if they have seen your laptop.
Retrace all your steps from the last moment you remember physically having your laptop. That means walking to each and every space you were in to confirm that it is not there. While in each space, ask an adult there if they have found or seen your laptop.
A loaner laptop can be provided for you from the ICT Help, but the loaner pool is limited; thus it is important that you undertake the purchase procedures and pay as quickly as possible.

We strive to empower you to manage your day and solve problems on your own which includes maintaining and troubleshooting your technology on your own.
You should always try to help yourself first. A wealth of information is available here on our Tech Tips page the Apple Support site and of course the many other trusted sources of information online.
Peers are probably the most immediate source of information and help; when in need, ask a friend for some assistance. To formalize this, a student tech help will be created to help teachers and students when needs arise. Students with an interest in helping others are invited to join the squad and are given training in troubleshooting common user problems. Members of this squad will then be easily identified within classes as troubleshooters and problem-solvers. The Tech Help Squad runs as a Co-Curricular Activity and you can sign up via the CCA program on Schoolsbuddy (in progress).
When a teacher or peer can not help with a hardware or software problem, you can always find your friendly and qualified ICT Help team in room 425. The ICT Help team can also be contacted by email at techhelp@cis.edu.hk or in-person from 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM each school day.
Both Bruce and Yariv are here to support all of your teaching and learning needs, ie. creating a podcast, understanding sharing permissions in Google Drive, managing your screen time, accessing Schoology, etc.
We can be found in room 904 and are available by appointment - simply create an event in Google Calendar or email us at sec-ict@cis.edu.hk.
For technical phone support outside of school hours, please contact the Apple Technical Support Line (852) 2112-0099. Additionally, you can access the “Express Lane” service here. For both options, you will need to have your serial number ready (found on the bottom side of your MacBook ).
