Yuliana de la Cruz was born in August 4, 2008. In the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She studies in the Cathedral International School (CIS) and is in 9th grade. But before coming to CIS, she studied in the Centro Educativo Las Americas (CELA). She knows three languages English, Spanish and French. Yuliana loves to learn new things, is very dedicated in everything she does, and loves to get to know new people even do she is shy.
She loves pets, music, traveling, movies and spending time with her family and friends. Yuliana loves to watch series, like K-dramas. She has two pets, a dog named Angie, and a bird named Mimi.
Yuliana's hobby is to buy things for her self, it could be clothes, skincare, bodycare, food...She finds that that is her therapy, that is what always makes her feel better. She also loves to spend a lot of time with her friends, and talk all day with them.
She worries a lot about her grades, and always wants to do her best, so she spends almost the entire day reading and catching up with her class.
What she likes about CIS is:
How dynamic it is.
The knowledge of the teachers.
The structure.
The traditions.
The values.
And the most important thing, that is love, because CIS is a family.
Technology brings together tools to promote development, use and information exchange, has as its main objective of making tasks easier and the solving of many problems of mankind. When technology progresses and makes our lives even more convenient, we must stress how beneficial it is to our lives.
Because of these kind of thing, she's always has been interested in technology, since she was a kid, she got interested a lot in robots. Now she likes it a lot, and everyday that passes wants to know more and more. For example, everyday she gets new questions, like "How are apps created?" "How is a website created"... .When Yuliana grows up, she wants to be a dermatologist, and, for being a dermatologist she needs to use machines that has to do with technology, so that is one of the main reasons she is interested in technology.
KAYSM TECH
The team was made in August 30,2022. Yuliana loves her teammates because she feels that they understand each other quite good and they are complementary, because every individual is good in their area. They have been working together for about 2-3 months. and everything has come together very well.
If you ask why Yuliana think's that they are very good together, is because in these months they have been tested with hard and not that hard evaluations, and no matter how hard it is, they always do their best, and most importantly, have fun.
Their name, KAYSM TECH stands for Kathy (K), Axelys (A), Yuliana (Y), Sidney (S) and Manuela (M). There is another integrant to the team, Onely Santos, but he entered later on, so that is why he isn't integrated in the name.
WORK
This was the very first project that they did it was done on september 2, 2022.
The command was to do: four houses, seven buildings, two streets and one car
In this case, they added more, for it to have a better presentation.
In this project the group's members divided the work. Axelys worked on the buildings, Sidney in the four houses, Yuliana in the supermarket, Manuela the school and Kathy the parks, streets and the decorations around the city. However, they also made it as a team. Kathy and Axelys made the basketball court, Onely and Manuela made the cars, and all of them were fixing the mini details of the city.
Yuliana discovered during this teamwork that she could group items for copying and pasting, lock items to make it simple for her to move some mini-items, change sizes and rotation by changing numbers, move items by changing snap grid, and move the camera to see if the view from the other side was still the same. Additionally, she has the ability to move things using the X, Y, and Z axes. She also realized that she needed to work on being cooperative. As a result, she began to cooperate and speak more with her teammates. The work is outstanding as a result.
This was the second project, it was done on september 6, 2022. Each group had something to design, but, every member of the group, had to do it individually. KAYSM TECH was assigned a bike.
Yuliana's bike is based on the bikes that we see in our daily life, and it has two colors, red and black, because there are her favorites.
In her opinion, she never had done something similar before. But, the result didn't disappoint her. Yuliana used this activity to understand better how to design. Also, she learned some tactics when working on it and how much it costs to do something that even do it looks simple.
This is the last project the team has done so far, and it was also needed to be done individually.
First of all, the star has to move from the outside to the center. Next, the star had to go up and down. Then, the star had to move from the center to the outside. And finally, the star had to go up and move from the outside to the inside, as if it was a spiral.
In Yuliana's opinion, this was the hardest, because before starting, you needed to understand many things, and if you got one code wrong, everything was messed up. But, when she finally understood all those things thanks to the teacher, she was able to do things easily. Because of the many parts that it has, it took the team and the rest of the class, three weeks, so it was also the longest project.
However, she learned a lot about programming and developed her brain through this work. She believes that this work practiced her patience and her attention.
What is Scratch?
Scratch is a visual programming language that allows students to create their own interactive stories, games and animations. As students design Scratch projects, they learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.
How they made it? What are the steps to play the game?
Before starting to fully use Scratch, their group made a research about it, as you can see in the presentation. Also, to do some training, they made a video game. They used the variable X, Y and Z. But in the making the group learned that variables, creates another process. To create the idea of this video game called "Running Robots", they collected the memories of games that were quite important throughout their childhood. It is honest to say that Scratch did challenge them and their distance when they weren't at school a bit, because in the platform, you can only work from one device. Over all, Scratch is a very easy app to use and also very dynamic. In the programming space of the app/web, it guides you through each step.
When playing the game, in order to survive and collect coins, the robot had to jump over to the trucks. The trucks speeds varied widely. It was slow at times and could be speedier at others. The player may press the spacebar and the bottom "P" to pause and bring up the "Paused" panel in order to jump. It would resume moving when "P" was pressed at the bottom once more. The coins that the robot gathered would display on the player's screen's left side. The game would immediately end and display "Game Over" if the robot collided with the trucks. However, the robot had a superpower that might help it survive.
The robot will jump higher when using this superpower, which has the shape of a boot. This game has a menu, just like the other games. The menu's background was identical to the game's static background, which featured a nighttime cityscape and a grey landscape. Moreover, the moving trucks, the dark green grass (which reflected the night), and the scrolling background. The name of their game, "RUNNING ROBOTS," appeared on the menu's top side. The title's bottom included two options: "PLAY" and "INFO," letting players know that their Gmail account created the game. This game's letters were all typeset in the "pixel" font. The robot, the trucks, the boot, and the menu header all used the purple that KAYSM TECH used to represent itself. The other's coloring also lends assistance. The white, black, pink, blue, and yellow, for instance.
What she learned?
Doing this game and presentation, Yuliana learned how to code in Scratch and the pros and cons about it. Also, she learned that when you work in group, you can only work from one computer. This app is really easy to work with because the coding is very easy and basically, every code block's title tells what you it is for. Scratch helps you to express your ideas by coding which allows young people to create digital stories, games, and animations.
