PE in KS2
PE in Key stage 2 is delivered through the Enfield PE schemes of work. These plans align with the national curriculum expectations. Pupils have plenty of opportunity to enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other. They will develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and they learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.
Pupils are taught to: use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination to play competitive games- they have the opportunity to develop these skills in a range of invasion, wall and net and striking and fielding games. Pupils will apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending, develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance and perform dances using a range of movement patterns.
Pupils will also take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team- this unit of work is also used to support children's understanding of 'skills building' .
Swimming and water safety
Pupils are provided swimming instruction in Year 4. Pupils get the bus to Southbury Leisure Centre accompanied by their teachers and a qualified first aider. Pupils receive instruction over the course of 10 weeks.
Pupils are taught to: swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres and to use a range of strokes effectively. Pupils are also taught to perform safe self-rescue.

The NHS recommends that children need 60 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity a day . Moderate intensity activities will raise your heart rate, and make you breathe faster and feel warmer. One way to tell if you're working at a moderate intensity level is if you can still talk, but not sing.
Examples of moderate intensity activities:
walking to school
playground activities
riding a scooter
skateboarding
rollerblading
walking the dog
cycling on level ground or ground with few hills
