Derrick Davis has joined the Croton-Harmon team as a Mathematics Teacher at the high school. During his career he has had a wide array of experience in K-12 education ranging from teaching fifth grade mathematics in the South Bronx, to teaching AP Calculus AB in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is currently scheduled to teach his personal favorite - Geometry, which he has taught for the past 7 years. In addition to his K-12 experience, Derrick has experience teaching in the post-secondary setting teaching both undergraduate and graduate mathematics and education courses at both SUNY Dutchess and CUNY Brooklyn College.
Derrick was raised in the Hudson Valley in Millbrook, NY. Afterwards, he earned an Associates Degree in Engineering Science from Daniel Webster College, a B.S. in Mathematics and B.S. in Secondary Education - Mathematics from SUNY College at Oneonta, and an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. He aspires to earn his Ph.D when his personal time permits so that he can be at the forefront of educational research as we catapult into the second quarter of the 21st century.
Outside the classroom Derrick enjoys spending time with his three young children whom he homeschools within a small Co-op in Lagrange, NY. Here is where Derrick's creative energy truly shines where he takes mathematics to an exciting and engaging level through a variety of curricular developments where children use their bodies and observations in nature to apply elementary mathematical principles. Derrick also enjoys gardening, BBQ, and creating and playing video games.
