First: At home, download and print the template.
If you are IN SCHOOL, your teacher will have these ready for you.
Card stock paper works better but regular paper will suffice.
Second: Watch the videos and review the picture steps showing HOW to make your roller coaster parts.
Make some important basic elements, like support legs, then add and build to make the ultimate coaster!
You'll need a weighted marble. A standard glass marble will work well.
START With a basic coaster that uses all the basic parts. Build the one found in the picture, and once you get the idea... GO BANANAS!
There are 4 elements here:
The Supports in (Yellow) are SUPER SUPER important!
The Hill (GREEN) needs to be steep enough to increase kinetic energy, but soft enough that the ball doesn't slam into the bottom. A gentle "s" like shape is perfect!
The Loop (blue) is incredible hard. Feel free top try it then change it to something like a bridge or a gentle hill that goes up and down again.
The Curve (red) is simple enough. Just remember to make one side tight and the other spread out.
DO NOT cut the dashed or dotted lines - ONLY CUT the SOLID lines with the picture of a scissor on them.
Once you have cut out a track, shape it how you want it.
Use scotch or masking tape to hold each bend in place.
This can take a lot of time, but it is WORTH IT!
Later, we can add more complex shapes and tracks to our roller coasters.
Get the basics down first, then we can have a mega coaster challenge!
