At CHS we are committed to ensuring the emotional wellbeing of our pupils and consider this to be just as important as their physical health and academic progress.
CHS has a on site School Counselling Service which is available to pupils via a referral system.
Pupils can be referred for counselling in one of two ways:
a parent/carer or member of the pastoral team may complete a referral form. Pupil Counselling: Referral Form 2024-25
Pupils aged 13 years plus may refer themselves through a self-referral form. ( However active engagement with the parents is always recommended )
Following a referral, pupils will be assessed and prioritised according to need and appointments made accordingly. Steps will be taken to ensure that appointments cause minimum disruption to a student’s timetable and timings can vary from week to week.
In addition, “drop-in” sessions are offered weekly whereby students may access the School Counsellor for immediate support.
It is important to note that:
Counselling is a completely confidential service and information shared with the School Counsellor will only be divulged if there is a safeguarding concern.
The School Counsellor will not contact parents directly; where any such contact is deemed appropriate, this will be the responsibility of the relevant Head of Year or Student Manager.
Counselling will progress as follows:
An initial counselling assessment will be offered, as soon as a place becomes available.
Following this assessment, up to six sessions, at a subsidised cost to parents of £38 per session, will be offered. The cost of sessions will be invoiced and added to the termly bill in arrears. The Counsellor will review after each session.
Should a student require extra sessions, beyond the six subsidised, this will be discussed with all relevant parties.
It is important to note that:
as part of the counselling process, the School Counsellor may sign post students in the direction of the School Nurse, a Student Manager or an external agency for further support.
if a student is referred to an external counselling service, counselling in School will cease.
CHS would not wish to deny access to counselling for any student. Anyone with concerns about the cost involved is encouraged to speak to a member of the Pastoral Team.
