GCSE PE
In Key Stage 4 students have the opportunity to study EdExcel GCSE PE.
This GCSE PE course is 30% practical and 70% theory. They are graded using the 1-9 system.
In the theoretical element of GCSE PE students study two components of PE; Fitness and Body Systems (36%) and Health and Performance (24%)
Students are required to be assessed in three different practical activities; one team activity, one individual activity and one free choice (30%) and undertake a Personal Exercise Programme (10%) as part of the non-examined unit.
In the practical element of the course our GCSE students also take part in an Outdoor Education residential trip to High Ashurst Outdoor Learning Centre to support the practical element of their course.
Students have 5 lessons of GCSE PE per fortnight. During a typical week students have one classroom based theory lesson and two practical lessons. The course follows a wide spectrum of activities ranging from anatomy, physiology, fitness testing, diet, training and the reasons for taking part in sport.
Students are assessed at the end of each practical unit as well as with theory examinations every half term. They are graded using the 1-9 system.
ALL students must purchase the GCSE PE Edexcel textbook. This can be purchased, as well as lots of other different revision resources, online through the following links:
As part of the practical controlled assessment for GCSE PE, students must be assessed in three sports. To help students fulfil this assessment we take the students on an Outdoor Adventurous Activities 3 day residential trip to participate in Rock Climbing. The compulsory trip provides students with the opportunity to be coached by professionals and be officially assessed in Rock Climbing as one of their three sports for their GCSE PE final assessment. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in other activities such as high ropes and team building challenges.
