Latin American Literature was an overall fulfilling course that taught me a lot about Latin America, its struggles, movements, history and culture. I would rate the course 10/10. Our professors, Andrew Barreto and Delilah Pacheco were also excellent in guiding us throughout the course.
The best part of this course was the Latin American Day, which was a unique learning experience. Not only did we learn about the country we picked, we got to learn a lot about all of the countries picked, since our classmates all did a great job with their presentations.
The CA-1 blogs were also a great way to get the topics across to us. We shared research among ourselves when there was an intersection in topics, and learnt off of each other's research.
In terms of syllabus, I personally enjoyed Unit-1 the most. The background information was very important for us to be able to understand Latin America and its literature better.
Unit-2 was slowly paced because of the way the novel is written, but it was still enjoyable.
Unit-3 was interesting to cover since it was a nice contrast to the other poetry we had learnt in earlier semesters, and gave a different perspective.
Unit-4 gave another dimension to our short story coverage too, teaching us more about the mysteries of Latin America, and the different writing styles of legendary authors.
All in all, I would call this one of the best courses during my 3 years in this degree program.
