Service of Opportunities
Service of Opportunities
Below are our requirements for service. If our service options are limited, then we will adjust our requirements as needed.
A total of 10 service projects are required each semester. Only 2 Service projects may be repeated. The only exception to that rule is fall/spring clean up/recycling. You may do both semesters which will count as 2 service projects.
Of the 10 service projects, up to 6 projects can be "outside" projects. The remaining must be BCMS projects. For more info on "outside" service opportunities, please contact me.
Members completing 20+ projects will receive a Service Award in addition to their NJHS certificate for going above and beyond their service requirements.
Keep track of your service on the project sheet. It is recommend that you submit your service hours right away using the Google Form. Remember you will still need to keep a paper copy and have the contact person sign off on each service project.
Summer Service Projects
Some of these take a few minutes, and others a bit longer, but they all help out in some way. Especially try pitching in to do tasks for neighbors who can’t do them themselves, like folks who are ill, elderly, or busy with work or childcare.
Walk kids home from school.
Rake leaves for an elderly neighbor.
Mow your neighbor’s lawn.
Offer dog-walking services.
Clean up cigarette butts on the ground.
If you know another language, be a translator at parent-teacher conferences.
Babysit during PTA meetings.
Foster a shelter animal.
Take and donate photos during community events.
Donate blood (if you’re at least 17, or 16 with parental consent).
Contact your reps about local issues.
