Helpful Tips

Water: Most of the year the water is turned off at the park. Have children bring at least one water bottle/child. If you are attending in hot weather, ask your school office where to find the large 5 gal. portable sports igloo beverage dispenser & fill at school to bring along.

Lunches: Each child brings a lunch from home or school. Remind parents that children will likely need a more substantial lunch than normal because we do a lot of hiking! Explicitly encourage a waste free lunch (Count reusable containers while eating & celebrate!) and carrying own lunch in & out of park. However, if you wish to keep lunches insulated/cool longer, schools should have a large cooler to put lunches in for those especially hot days. Upon arrival, chaperones could carry and put this cooler in the building while you immediately get started with a gathering activity or directions outside.

Bathrooms: There is a pit toilet available in the parking lot near the boat landing and outdoor classroom. Go out back door of building, head down the short path to your left, cross road, take short path to the pit toilet.

Play: There is a nice new playground near the beach area. It's a short walk from the outdoor classroom and allows your class to have physical movement and free play without teacher directions. After children are done eating lunches, teachers often give time for free play or outdoor games.

Skis: Poles should be about armpit height. When child stretches out his/her arm above head, skis should be length of ground to his/her wrist.
