Grade Level Activities

Take a hike pal! No, seriously take a hike! There are so many activities that you and your students can do at the park! No matter the grade you teach you are free to explore the trails, play on the equipment, have a picnic, play tag games, or bring lessons from your school and deliver them at the the park. Below are some suggested activities done in the past. Adjustment may be needed to fit NGSS. If you want more help, see next page for guidance. Feel free to make the day yours!

Kindergarten (Coming Soon! Join us to plan.)

  • Students are introduced to the park in the spring. Teachers can lead several activities to learn about animal camouflage. In the afternoon teachers and studetns can hike the nature trail and visit the pond.

Grade 1 (Coming Soon! Join us to plan.)

  • Classes can visit the park in the fall and focus on the Prairie. Students can learn about life on the prairie and hike up to the prairie. In the afternoon, they can Adopt a Tree in the Picnic area.

Grade 2 (Coming Soon! Join us to plan.)

  • Second grade can visit in either the spring or the fall. They can walk the Lake Trail (about 2 miles) that starts at the top of the park and ends at the Outdoor Classroom. Depending upon the season, they can look for signs of spring and fall. Students will also learn how to identify many of the trees and plants native to Wisconsin.

Grade 4

  • Fourth grade can visit the park in the winter. They can snowshoe and Cross Country ski. All equipment is housed at the park. Student can also be introduced and focus on the 4R's: Reuse, Recycle, Reduce, and Refuse. As a reminder: Walking on the trains is not permitted. The trails are groomed for skiing only. Walking ruins the ski track and encourages others to walk on teh trails as well .

Grade 5

  • Fifth grade can visit the park in the winter. They can snowshoe and Cross Country ski. All equipment is housed at the park. Student can also be introduced and focus on energy conservation. As a reminder: Walking on the trains is not permitted. The trails are groomed for skiing only. Walking ruins the ski track and encourages others to walk on the trails as well.

Grade 3

  • This is the culmination of the spring/fall program for students. They will review many of the concepts learned in earlier years. Depending on the weather, they can visit nesting bluebirds, mating frogs and toads, pond study and the awakening of spring. The afternoon can be spent building survival shelters and boats. They can float their boats to the Gulf of Mexico from the boat landing on Lake Wissota.
