Natural Wonders Early Learning Centers - Exploring Careers in Early Learning

Students from SCCHS attended the Explore Careers in Early Learning Event on May 28 at Natural Wonders Early Learning Centers - Cheadle Place location in Swift Current. Participants had the opportunity to work with children in the various age groups. Thank you to Team Coordinator Jenna Watson and her staff for facilitating this day for our students. We would also like to thank Keely Chalk and Shannon Mitchel of Great Plains College for sharing the various post-secondary learning opportunities in Early Childhood Education that are available to students.  Participants comments: " I learned that kids learn a lot from connecting with their environment."Â
" I never realized how much I would really like working with the infants and toddlers, I thought I would enjoy preschoolers more."Â " Can I come back next year?"Â

Chinook Power Station - Exploring Careers with SaskPower
From March 27, 2024
The Chinook School Division Industry Education Program organized an opportunity for students in Grades 9-12 to explore the SaskPower - Chinook Power Station. Students interested in pursuing careers with SaskPower participated in the tour and experience. They learned about various careers from those in the sector including Electrical Engineering Technologists, Power Engineering, Power Line Technicians, and more. Students and teachers went through a safety orientation, toured the facility, and learned about training opportunities through Great Plains College, and the SDLC.

Exploring Careers in Agriculture Science
From September 26, 2023
The Chinook SD Industry Education Program organized an opportunity for 23 students in Grades 9-12 to explore potential careers in Agriculture Science. Participants had the chance to delve into interactive learning experiences encompassing plant science, pesticide application, herbicide management, tillage, marketing, and soil science. The eight-month Agricultural Science Certificate program, hosted by Great Plains College, was highlighted as a path to kickstart a career in the agriculture sector. Students were invited to the college for a firsthand look at the program's offerings and to engage in hands-on agricultural activities. Following lunch, the group embarked on a tour of the Swift Current Research and Development Station, gaining insights into job opportunities and the roles of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada staff in various agricultural research areas.

SWT Gull Lake - Agronomy Academy
From June 14, 2023
The Chinook School Division Industry Education Program organized an opportunity for students in Grades 9-12 to explore SWT Gull Lake. Students interested in pursuing a career in agronomy participated in the Agronomy Academy. They learned about various careers from those in the sector including Agronomist, Human Resources, Grain Marketing, Sales, and more. Students and teachers were able to tour the facility, and local growing plots.
