Social Studies Curriculum Overview

This year, we will continue using Social Studies Alive! on TCI, accessible through Clever. 

Our units of study are detailed below:

UNIT 1: AMERICA'S GEOGRAPHIC SETTING - Students explore North America’s environments, Native American adaptations, and cultural regions. They will study explorers’ artifacts, motives, routes, and impacts. 

UNIT 2: COLONIAL TIMES - Students compare early settlements, analyze diverse perspectives on colonial life, and study the history of slavery through primary sources. They will also examine daily life in Colonial Williamsburg. 

UNIT 3: AMERICAN REVOLUTION - Students investigate causes of colonial tension, debate as Loyalists or Patriots, analyze copies of the Declaration of Independence, and compare American and British strengths and weaknesses. 

UNIT 4: CIVICS AND ECONOMICS IN AMERICA - Students study the Constitution, checks and balances, and freedoms in the Bill of Rights. They will also explore how civic values and the U.S. Free Market Economy are shaped by the Constitution.
