Science Curriculum Overview
This year, students will engage in collaborative labs to investigate scientific phenomena, spark curiosity, and create solutions to real-world environmental concerns! They will also use the Carolina Science online text and simulations through Clever.
Our units of study are detailed below:
UNIT 1: STRUCTURES AND PROPERTIES OF MATTER - Students explore physical and chemical properties of matter, experiment with mixtures and solutions, and learn that matter is conserved. They will design and test a system to separate materials in a mixture.
UNIT 2: MATTER AND ENERGY IN ECOSYSTEMS - Students examine how energy, nutrients, and water cycle through ecosystems and study the effects of removing organisms. They will design solutions to reduce human impact on ecosystems and climate change.
UNIT 3: EARTH AND SPACE SYSTEMS - Students use models to study Earth’s interconnected systems and their impacts on one another. They will research how communities use science to protect natural resources and create a public service announcement on environmental and climate solutions.
