Knowledge: This domain introduces students to classic fairy tales and tall tales, along with the important lessons they teach. It builds on earlier learning and prepares students for future story study. The first half focuses on fairy tales, reviewing elements of fiction and revisiting familiar stories like “The Fisherman and His Wife,” “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” The second half explores tall tales such as “Paul Bunyan,” “Pecos Bill,” “John Henry,” and “Casey Jones,” introducing the American frontier setting and the concept of exaggeration.
