Dear 2nd Grade Students and Parents,

I hope you are having a terrific summer! I am very excited about being your 2nd grade teacher, and am looking forward to a year filled with fun and challenging learning opportunities.  Our classroom has many terrific books, individual laptop computers, a Promethean board, and much more!

This year we will be studying many topics in math, such as addition and subtraction up to the 1,000s. We will read fairy tales and talk about the valuable lessons they teach, and write stories and poems throughout the year. We will spend time studying all about communities, this is where people live, work and play. In addition, we will conduct many fun investigations in science that will help us understand about different forms of matter, Earth's surface and ecosystems.

During the first few weeks of school, we will be reviewing routines and learning expectations. Each day we will begin with a Community Meeting, and begin to build our classroom community. Everyone will play an important part in this and will contribute toward a successful year. We will also focus a lot this year on developing our growth mindset when facing challenges. For example, instead of saying  "I can't do this." We will say, "I can't do this yet." This type of attitude will help us get through any obstacle!
