As the February break is only a few days long, many people choose to stay local rather than go away. However, you can still take advantage of the break by doing some local activities at home, in town, or around Connecticut to make it feel like a vacation.

Connecticut has many opportunities for nature lovers during the winter. Our state is the winter home for bald eagles, and their nesting grounds can be seen at the Shepaug Dam in Southbury. There have even been a couple spotted along the Quinnipiac Trail in the north end of town connecting Cheshire and Meriden, and on the Farmington Canal trail in the southern end of town. You can also bundle up and take a winter walk around your neighborhood or on the trails around town or throughout the state. If you love the snow or are feeling adventurous, skiing is open at Mount Southington or Powder Ridge, our local ski mountains.

Even if you aren’t very outdoorsy, there are still many things you can do in the comfort of your own home or by yourself. The library has a lot of great material in its catalog. Try finding a great book, movie, or game to play with your family, friends, or just by yourself. If you want to get out of town for a couple of hours, you can also take a drive to R.J. Julia Bookstore in Madison. You can explore their amazing collection of books and support a local small business but don’t forget to pop into their cafe for a treat. Another fun idea to do over break is to invite some friends over for game night. It could be a video game, board game, or card game, but what matters is the quality time you spend with your bestie. If any of these options still don’t appeal to you, you can always stay home, snuggle in a blanket, and read a book or binge-watch a TV show you haven't had time for.

For sports enthusiasts, there are several CHS varsity games and meets happening over our break. On Friday, 2/16, there is a Varsity Boy's Basketball game and a Varsity Boys Swimming and Diving meet. On Saturday, 2/17, the Varsity Boys Ice Hockey are playing at the Northford Rink, and the Varsity Boys and Girls Indoor Track State Open is also happening. Finally, on Tuesday, 2/20, Varsity Boys Swimming & Diving has another meet. If you need any more information about times or locations of these events please visit the CHS website for times and locations.

Sometimes it is hard to figure out what to do over February break because it isn’t always long enough for a vacation, but it’s long enough that you need to find something to do. However, there are still many ways to have fun and enjoy your off time. Have a great break!!!
