On Wednesday, May 8th, Cheshire High School’s Boys Volleyball team will be hosting a home game against Amity High School which will be the very first dedication game to the Morgan’s Message Organization at Cheshire High School. The Girl’s Lacrosse team will follow on May 9th with the second. Morgan’s Message is an organization in memory of an athlete who lost her life due to mental health; it spreads positive messages surrounding athlete’s mental health and advocates especially for student athletes.

Morgan’s Message organization was started in the past few years and Morgan’s family and friends have started a nation wide movement to bring awareness to athlete mental health. They use words of encouragement to spread information to young athletes about where to get help, the signs someone may need help or support, and most importantly, they break the stigma surrounding athlete mental health. It is too often told to young athletes that they need to be strong and tough all the time and asking for help isn’t okay, thus, Morgan’s Message shoots to take away these false opinions and validate the feelings of all young athletes. Cheshire High School students Brenna and Maeve Zbikowski recently started a chapter of this club at CHS and have started spreading the message for change and advocacy within the school community. The club has arranged two dedication games so far with different sports teams, the first being the Boys Volleyball. The club has made posters to hang and the message “Human Over Athlete” will be shown at the dedication games to bring to light this important message.

This event is an important way to spread awareness about mental health, especially in young student athletes, and the club is trying to gain as much support as possible to continue to spread the message. The game will take place on May 8th, 2024, and the varsity game will begin at 6:00p.m. against rival school Amity High School. The following day, May 9th, the Girls Lacrosse team will host a dedication game as well against Staples at 6:00p.m. The club has plans to schedule more dedication games as well as events to continue to raise awareness about the message of the organization.
