As the holidays grow near, hot chocolate becomes a nighttime must for many people. Luckily, there’s a way to make hot chocolate a bit more interesting: hot chocolate bombs! These chocolate balls melt in hot milk and have hot chocolate powder inside. They can make a great gift or just something to enjoy with family.
Ingredients:
Melting chocolate
Hot cocoa mix
Tiny marshmallows
Milk
Any small add-ons, like crushed peppermints or mini chocolate chips
Supplies:
Half circle baking molds
Big enough to hold the hot chocolate mix, but small enough to fit into a cup
Saucepan
Heatproof bowl
Spoon
Plate
Measuring spoons
Directions:
Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan with simmering water
Once completely melted, add a spoonful of melted chocolate to each half circle silicone mold and use the back of the spoon to completely coat the mold
Make sure the chocolate is thin enough to melt in the chocolate
Transfer the molds to a freezer for 5-20 minutes, or allow them to chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes
Once the chocolates are set, carefully take them out of the molds and set them on a flat surface
Warm up a small plate in the microwave and press the edges of the semicircles to the plate to melt the chocolate
Quickly fill half of the molds with hot chocolate powder, noting the amount of powder the box says to use, about 1-2 tablespoons
Fill the other half of chocolate semi-circles each with mini marshmallows
At this point you can put in anything else you want in your hot chocolate
Press the melted edges together to seal the chocolate into a ball
If you would like, you can use extra melted chocolate or other small candies to decorate the outside of the hot chocolate bomb
Place the chocolate bombs back into the freezer or fridge to set them
To serve:
Heat up a cup of milk and place the chocolate bomb in the milk
Wait for it to melt, stir, and enjoy!
