Do you ever feel bored during winter break? Then check out these fun winter-themed activities to do! I know that some people may not be celebrating the holidays over break, so here are some ideas that could keep you entertained in the meantime. The majority of these enjoyable activities should not take up much of your time and can be completed with stuff you most likely already have at home:
Making paper snowflakes would be a great activity to do with maybe a friend, a family member, or anyone your heart desires. All the tools you need are a pair of scissors and a sheet of paper. Once you have gathered all of your supplies you can either look up “How to make a paper snowflake” on YouTube and click the videos that pop up after, or look up a tutorial on Google and click on the first couple of websites that appear. Tada! Congratulations, you did it! You made your very own paper snowflake that looks great.
Another idea would be baking cookies. Baking cookies with anybody is a great way to connect and socialize with one another, and of course, to enjoy delicious cookies at the end! To create basic sugar cookies, just search for any sugar cookie recipe either on Google or YouTube. Make sure to specify the search by saying, “How to make sugar cookies to decorate” to make it easier for yourself to find the exact recipe that is ideal for decorating. Then to create the frosting people usually use something called royal icing. Royal icing is a type of frosting that is typically used to decorate sugar cookies. My favorite quick and easy recipe wherever I make this is the one created by “Preppy Kitchen”.
Creating holiday letters for your teachers to give after the long break is another fun option. Especially writing letters to some of your favorite teachers, I’m sure they would appreciate it, even if the card were to be given after break. If you think making cards is too easy, you could step it up and try making pop-up cards instead. Looking up a tutorial on YouTube would be the easiest way to learn to make one.
Another fun activity to do over the long winter break is making garland decor to use around the house. To start, you would need different colored sheets of paper cut into long strips. Then you link them together using a stapler (the easiest method to make a loop with the strip) to create a long chain. After you create your chain, you can hang it up anywhere in your house as decoration. Since Christmas is celebrated by countless people in Cheshire, you could maybe use a combination of red and green, gold and white, or white and red. If you do not celebrate and choose not to use these colors you could always use colors corresponding to winter.
Additionally, another option that you could choose is window decorating. As I have mentioned before, since we are in the winter season, you could decorate any of the windows around your house to make it look more festive and enjoyable. All you would need for this activity are a couple of sheets of blank paper, clear tape, and scissors. Once you have gathered all your supplies you can start cutting out different shaped items to create a festive winter snowscape. If you are having trouble thinking of something, looking at inspirational pictures online is always a helpful tool. Every winter, I usually like to cut out large pieces of snow to add to the bottom of my window as a base and build on from there!
Lastly, creating a scrapbook of all the fun moments with your loved ones is a great way to preserve these memories. To do so, you would need a blank book, ideally just a normal book with blank pages on the inside, many pieces of colored paper, and coloring supplies (such as markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc). Then by using all of these items, you can create this scrapbook however you would like. This is a nice keepsake to look at and laugh about when you get older as you look back and remember all the great memories you have made for the year 2024.
I hope some of these activities will keep your boredom away during the extended winter break this year. Most importantly, don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the time you choose to spend with your loved ones. Have a great long winter break Ramland!
