Fabienne Fredrickson, a mentor, author, and speaker once said: “The things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.” When students are in high school, it is not uncommon to have many passions. With the astounding amount of athletic, extracurriculars, and academic opportunities offered, it is only natural for students to have many interests. But after high school, students are faced with the daunting task of determining which of these interests and passions truly are their calling. The “calling” that will turn into their career which will become such an immense part of the rest of their lives. It is incredibly overwhelming for high school students to be expected to have it all figured out, but experimentation and experience can help make the process more comfortable for students.

At Cheshire High School, this experimentation is offered in the form of a CCP Internship Experience course. The course allows students to explore career paths they may be interested in and to learn about valuable employment skills for the future. It spans for one semester and is offered to juniors and seniors with a 3.0 GPA or better for 0.5 credits. Students must complete twenty internship hours during this time period at a place of their choosing. They have the opportunity to apply for various employment options around town in various fields. The course can also be used to meet the requirements for the Mastery Based Performance Assessment which is a graduation requirement.

Students can inquire about this course to their guidance counselor to receive additional information and explore the option to participate in this invaluable experience.
