With its proximity to home and a wide variety of programs, it’s clear to see why many CHS students choose Fairfield University as their post-graduate path. As of the 2022-2023 school year, 199 CHS students have been accepted into Fairfield University and 45 have enrolled.

Fairfield stands out amongst Connecticut’s thirty four-year universities to many applicants because of its coastal location. The 200-acre campus is located less than a mile from the Long Island Sound beaches. Fairfield offers four years of guaranteed housing, however, many students will choose to live off campus on the beach their senior year. Before this, students are given the option of living in halls, townhouses, or apartments. Students can also opt to live in learning communities, which ensure that they share dorms with students studying the same major as them. Many of these on-campus housing options offer several educational, social, cultural, and spiritual programs to their residents.

Fairfield has a 60% acceptance rate and a 78% graduation rate. The university is best known for its Nursing program as well as its Accounting and Finance program, which both scored in the top 10% of their category by Niche. Besides this, Fairfield also offers forty eight undergraduate majors and minors along with twenty four interdisciplinary minors, spanning from American Studies to Behavioral Neuroscience. If you still cannot find something you’re passionate about, they also have the Individually Designed Major which allows students from the College of  Arts and Science to pursue a customized  interdisciplinary program that is not yet offered by the university.

Outside of academics, Fairfield is a Division 1 school with twelve sports teams, many of which play in the Leo. D Mahoney Area which was newly built just last year. Along with these teams, Fairfield also offers club and intramural sports for students looking for a low-commitment way to stay active. Some of the intramurals offered include spikeball, badminton, and eGaming. If playing a sport isn’t for you, there are also over one hundred student-led clubs and organizations. These range from academically intense honor societies to social and political clubs.

Fairfield is a Jesuit and Catholic college, founded by the Society of Jesus in 1942. However, they welcome students of all beliefs and traditions to their campus.
