The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, popular prequel to The Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins, has quickly become a movie that hit the theaters November 17, 2023. From the perspective of Lucy Gray Baird, a fighter chosen for the hunger games, we see how Coriolanus Snow came to be the man we know from the original Hunger Games series, and why he is how he is.

With Collins’ first book of the Hunger Games series coming out in 2008, it was an immediate hit on the shelves of young adults, and soon the other two books in the series followed, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. The Hunger Games series was an international bestseller, and she soon sent off the rights for them to be made into movies, with The Hunger Games in 2012, Catching Fire in 2013, Mockingjay Part 1 in 2014, and finally Mockingjay Part 2 in 2015.

Many people were excited about this live-motion picture as the book itself turned out to be quite popular among teens and young adults, even though it was a prequel many of the old fans responded very well to it. This movie represents previous symbolism, characteristics, and other specific details that readers of the novels might recognize. There is also a lot of reported parallelism between Lucy Gray and Katniss Everdeen, which further explains Snow’s known crude feelings towards Katniss in the first three novels.

This film has been highly reviewed all over the country, and seemingly very true to the original story told in the book. If you are a fan of the series, I highly recommend seeing this movie!
