Math
In our math block, we will primarily use the Bridges Curriculum. Students will practice math independently, in partners/small groups, and with the teacher. Differentiating the learning tasks and instructional approaches will help make sure math learning needs are met. We will use pre-assessments and formative assessments to ensure students’ needs are being met throughout the Bridges’ Unit Modules. In addition, Willow Creek is excited to be using Reflex Math. Reflex Math is an online home/school component to increase fact fluency in addition/ subtraction as well as multiplication/ division. Another online home/school component used in math will be Khan Academy. Khan Academy is designed to provide students with individualized and differentiated math practice based on their specific areas of need.

Khan Academy
As a supplement to the Bridges Math program, which is used K-5 at WCE, the 3rd Grade is proud to introduce a new online supplemental math program – Khan Academy! Khan Academy will provide students with additional math practice. Khan Academy is an online program that enables students to practice and master math concepts - one topic at a time. Students will be required to complete assignments which have been specifically given to the class as a whole AND some assignments which have been specifically sent to your child to target their individual math needs.
Unique to Khan Academy, students can watch short video tutorials which will assist in allowing students to grasp the concept they are working on. We have set up each student with their own individual account. The teacher account allows us to monitor and review student progress. Therefore we can see a student is struggling with a concept. Through the independent use of Khan Academy we encourage self-advocacy in times of struggle so that we may also assist students with direct instruction in areas of confusion and struggle!
