Each student will attach a vocabulary word to his/her headband. Sitting in a circle, students take turns asking questions that will help them guess the word on their head. If students guess their word within the time limit, they can choose a new card. Each correct guess is worth one point. The student with the most points at the end wins.
Students will work individually to draw a picture that matches each vocabulary word. Drawing a picture of the word's meaning will help students learn, understand, and retain the new vocabulary words. The drawings can also be added to the student's vocabulary journal.
During this activity, the students will work in small groups or partnerships. The students will have one set of cards with the vocabulary word and one set of cards with corresponding definitions. The cards are mixed up and placed face-down in columns and rows. The students will take turns turning over two cards trying to match a word to its definition. If they make a match, their turn continues. The student with the most matches at the end wins.
