Sprint 1: Microsoft's MakeCode and Basic Micro:bit Programming
The Microsoft MakeCode block-based coding environment is a powerful and intuitive way to make the micro:bit react to all sorts of input, and you can introduce fundamental concepts such as iteration, conditional statements, and variables using MakeCode.
Much like a tiny, pocket-sized computer, the micro:bit encourages kids to learn basic coding and programming skills to prepare them for today’s tech-savvy world. It follows on from the BBC Micro, which helped introduce the nation to computing back in the 1980s – when computers looked a whole lot different to the ones we have today!
Sprint 2: Doing Your Bit!
Students will use MakeCode, an online programming editor to write several short programs that utilize the main sensors and features of the Micro:bit v2. Below are a few examples. Try a few for yourself. The MakeCode IDE has a simulator built in if you don't have a Micro:bit to test on.
