Rotation 6: LEGO Derby Racing
We will be studying the forces that affect a moving object, then using our knowledge to build, test, and race LEGO derby cars!
We will go through 4 challenges during this rotation.
Fastest Car
Slowest Car
Fastest car only using 12 bricks
Championship Fastest Car wins using as many bricks as you want
Rotation 5: Keyborad Orientation Skills
Learning to type is such an important skill set that we will spend time on in STEM/Technology classes. We will be using Type to Learn for our keyboarding and typing lessons. Students will have access to this at home and may practice as often as they would like. Students can login with this link, Dance Mat Typing.
Try Dance Mat Typing at home with your student. https://www.dancemattypingguide.com/
Rotation 4: WIXIE
Students are currently practicing logging in to their school accounts with their username and password, and creating in Wixie.
Many times it is difficult for primary students to login and here are a few reasons that will slow them down.
straight up forgetting it
capital letters and/or accidentally hitting the CAPS LOCK key
finding symbol keys like @
periods in the various domain levels in their email username
using the shift key to type symbol keys
when passwords are hidden so they can’t see what they’ve typed
Wixie is a great application for amplifying their voice with art, voice, writing, and video. Students will be learning to navigate and create projects over the course of our school year.
Rotation 3: KEVA Planks
Team A students will be the architects of their own creativity while building 2D and 3D structures using KEVA Planks. All students start by exploring to see what they are able to build. As students build they quickly discover that the possibilities are endless. By the end of the rotation many students are not just building the tallest towers, but are becoming more masterful at what they build and they connect their structures together with their classmates.
Rotation 2: Coding Colby the Mouse and Digital Citizenship
Team A students will be talking about Digital Citizenship and learning to code/program Colby, their Robot Mouse. Colby will be a great addition to our Technology/STEM class this school year. Students will be learning all the different parts of Colby while solving several puzzles ranging from beginner to difficult and with the ability to create their own puzzles for others to solve. Students will use the Engineering Design Process and sequential ordering skills to solve these puzzles and use their best caring skills for cleaning up and putting Colby away.
For Digital Citizenship we will be talking about these questions:
How do we find a happy balance between our online and offline activities?
How do you say goodbye to technology when you don't want to?
How do you go places safely online?
