At 1st Cheriton Beavers, badges are a great way for young people to celebrate what they've learned, try new activities and recognise their achievements.
Beavers can earn awards by taking part in our programme, learning new skills, helping others and challenging themselves. Some badges are worked towards together during our meetings, while others can be completed at home with family support.
Every Beaver develops at their own pace. We encourage everyone to have a go, enjoy themselves and feel proud of what they achieve!
The Chief Scout's Bronze Award is the highest award a Beaver can earn. It's a fantastic achievement that recognises commitment, learning and taking part in a wide range of activities.
To earn this award, Beavers need to complete all six Challenge Awards and any four Activity or Staged Activity Badges of their choice.
There's no need to rush. Beavers can work towards the award throughout their time in the Colony, and if they need a little longer, they can finish it during their first term as a Cub Scout.
Challenge Awards encourage Beavers to try new things, develop their skills and work together as a team. They cover different areas of Scouting, from outdoor adventures and teamwork to caring for others and exploring the world around us.
Beavers work towards these awards through activities at our weekly meetings and special events. Each award celebrates the skills and experiences they gain along the way.
When a Beaver makes their Scout Promise during their Investiture ceremony, they receive their Membership Award. The badge features the Scout fleur-de-lis, an international symbol of Scouting.
It's a special milestone that celebrates becoming an official member of the Scout family!
Joining In Awards celebrate the time a young person spends taking part in Beavers. They recognise their participation, enthusiasm and the experiences they enjoy along the way.
These awards are given as Beavers reach membership milestones, helping them celebrate their journey through the section.
Leadership Stripes recognise Beavers who take on extra responsibilities within the Colony.
Beavers may have the opportunity to become a Lodge Leader or Lodge Second. These roles help them develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills while supporting their fellow Beavers.
It's a great way for young people to practise being responsible, helping others and leading by example.
The Moving On Award celebrates a Beaver's journey as they prepare to move up to Cub Scouts.
It helps Beavers look forward to their next adventure, learn a little about what Cubs get up to and feel more confident about moving into their new section.
Moving on is an exciting milestone, and we want every Beaver to feel ready for this next step in their Scouting journey!
Activity Badges give Beavers the chance to explore their interests, discover new hobbies and learn exciting new skills.
There are lots of different badges to choose from, covering activities such as creativity, nature, technology, helping others and adventure.
Some badges are completed during our weekly meetings, while others can be worked on at home with family support. If your Beaver is interested in a particular badge, have a chat with us — we'd love to help them give it a go!
Staged Activity Badges allow Beavers to develop skills at their own pace, working through different stages as they grow in confidence and ability.
These badges cover skills such as swimming, music and emergency aid. Some have several stages, so young people can continue building on what they've learned as they progress through Beavers, Cubs and beyond.
If your child is already working towards a staged badge outside of Beavers, let us know. We can help them understand how their achievements can be recognised in Scouting.
As your Beaver earns badges, you'll want to know where to sew them onto their uniform. Our badge placement guide below shows where the different awards and activity badges belong.
Some badges are worn in specific places, while others are arranged on the uniform sleeve. If you're unsure where a badge should go, please ask us — we're always happy to help!
A little tip: It's worth checking badge placement before sewing badges on, so you don't have to move them later.
We know that sewing badges onto uniform isn't everyone's favourite job! If you'd like a little help, I offer a badge sewing service for just 50p per badge.
Simply leave your Beaver's uniform with me at a weekly meeting, and it will be ready to collect the following week.
Hopefully, this makes keeping your Beaver's uniform up to date that little bit easier!
In the centre top of the right hand sleeve, name tape to go above the district badge
These can be placed in any order as long as they follow this pattern. The Chief Scouts Bronze Award/Badge will be placed above these and can be carried onto the next section.
The membership badge needs to be placed here. The occasional badges can go anywhere in the top left hand collar bone area and usually can only be worn for 3 months.
Again, can be placed anywhere on the left-hand sleeve, its nice to place in a pattern, but doesn’t need to be. Only the highest staged badges and carried onto the next section.
These are placed above the membership badge. Only the highest number is carried onto the next section.
These badges and the JOTT badge can be worn here, but no more than the latest two that have been awarded.
These badges are now out of date and can no longer be worn on their uniform. Any old badges can be transferred onto their camp blanket.
