Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools believes in nurturing development in grade K-3 prior to the identification process. The Gifted Education Specialist (GES) will often collaborate with classroom teachers to incorporate rigorous lessons and focus on higher order thinking skills. These lessons often are incorporating USTARS and PETS.
Once students are identified, they will receive a Differentiated Education Plan (DEP) which explicitly states the additional opportunities for differentiation, enrichment, acceleration in regular classrooms by their classroom teachers and diverse opportunities explore their interests will take place in and outside of the school setting. Typically once the child reaches the end of 8th grade, parents are given pathways to help direct the child throughout high school.
