New Resource! – Healthcare careers website by the ECU

Interested in learning more about careers in the healthcare industry?

Elizabeth Lockhart, a DNP FNP student at East Carolina University, developed a healthcare website that contains information about various healthcare careers for middle and high school students to help increase interest in the healthcare field.

Healthcare Careers tagline.... nursing.ecu.edu

The iDream program is a several-week virtual enrichment program for students to learn about different healthcare specialties and topics from black healthcare professionals. Response from a former ECHHS student, "I got to participate in the program last year and it was honestly the best healthcare-oriented program I got to experience because of all that we got to learn and also because of how students in the program got to interact with and communicate with various inspirational black healthcare professionals. Last year, I got a scholarship to attend the program for free and I think the program partners with educational institutions to offer more scholarships for students to attend the program."

The podcast was started by Dr. Jasmine Weiss, a black physician at UNC. Through the B-MED podcast, students interested in health careers get to learn more about the process of getting involved in healthcare from black healthcare professionals who have done really inspirational things for others.

Know Before You Go

Know Before You Go started as a collaboration between the Alliance for Children’s Rights and Children’s Law Center after California extended foster care to age 21. The Alliance and CLC joined forces to create the Know Before You Go campaign to educate and support young adults transitioning from foster care to independence.

The mission of Know Before You Go is to empower youth to become their own advocates, armed with the knowledge and information they need to succeed in work, school and life. Know Before You Go breaks down complicated issues and helps youth tackle the barriers they face.
