My name is Alexin McEwan and I'm a 2D visual artist and content creator on YouTube, Unvale, and Magma, born and raised in North Carolina. Originally I just wanted to give the characters I create a 3D visual and I was curious, but recently I've started leaning towards possibly making models for video games or a video game itself thanks to game creators popping up onto my feed and holding my attention. I believe that it's never too late to start creating any form of art, and that one shouldn't rely on others to tell them whether it's good or not, art is supposed to be made for the artist, everyone else is just a spectator unless specific circumstances are involved (I.E. it's for a job, commissioned, etc.)Â
I'm not yet familiar with any 3D modeling software, but I use a 2D art platform called Magma and am very familiar with that. I'm not very great at environment from my experience, but I can do character design/development and concept art, and I also haven't had any experience with coding or game mechanics.
I create a lot of my own characters and worlds, as well as sometimes writing (unfinished) stories. My art has recently started improving, and the past few pages of my sketchbook are some I'm particularly proud of. I have a few characters in specific I tend to favor and build up more, who are also the same ones I tend to show people. I'm not great with others but in a group situation I work well enough and prefer to keep things simple when working with people I'm not comfortable with or unfamiliar with yet, and I'm usually the one doing visuals or final details. In some cases I'm the overseer and unofficial manager of group projects.
I feel like I tend to either dive headfirst into a new project, or I do so much research and planning that it ends up lost and I end up unhappy with the outcome, but there's always a starting idea. Nine out of ten times the initial idea is what the final product ends up as because development is already part of the initial idea, so rarely are there any major changes to a character or concept during production. Several content creators I see online are a large inspiration to me, as well as a few specific video games (The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare I & II reboots, mainly). Music is the main thing that triggers ideas for me. There aren't really any artists I take inspiration from, more so any piece of art I see as well as anything that interests me (Unique styles of clothes, hair, strange distortions of nature, an interesting animal, etc.)
I'm hoping to become a full-time content creator and/or a freelance artist, and I'd like to have 3D modeling under my belt both for my future and for my own enjoyment. Art is something I really enjoy, and having 3D art as a new medium for me to play with seems like it will be a positive thing.
