A Message for Potential Candidates
The Chattahoochee-Flint RESA GaTAPP program is designed to be:
18 months for Middle Grades, Secondary, or P-12 Non-Special Education
AND
18 months-2 years for Elementary, Special Education, and Dual Elementary/Special Education
Candidates shall attend every day of the 10-day Essentials of Effective Teaching course.
A Candidate Support Team (CST) comprised of the candidate’s school mentor teacher, the school administrator, and the RESA supervisor is assigned to the candidate.
The CST may include a content specialist, as well as any other team member, deemed necessary.
Assessments of the candidate’s progress as a developing teacher are built into the program and are monitored by all members of the Candidate Support Team.
The mentor teacher and RESA Supervisor complete performance evaluations (classroom observations) of the Candidate and offer feedback and support.
The candidate’s abilities to create units of instruction and lesson plans are assessed as well as effectiveness on student learning.
Individual Certification Plans are developed to focus on weaknesses observed in the classroom and dispositions which need to be developed or strengthened.
Each candidate must observe four days in a school setting which will vary in socio-economic, cultural, and grade levels that are different from the candidate’s assigned school. If in-person is not possible, an online resource will be given to do virtual observations.
Professional dispositions are nurtured throughout the program. Dispositions to be demonstrated are reviewed during the Essential’s course.
Each member of the Candidate Support Team completes a Teacher Dispositions Rubric three times during the program. The responses are used to guide the professional growth of the candidate.
Each candidate’s results on the multiple assessments are evaluated as part of the assessment system. Candidates will be provided additional support to successfully complete each one.
Each candidate must pass the HB671 Exceptional Children’s course.
Each candidate must pass the Teaching of Reading and Writing course.
Each candidate must complete and pass the EPiC Assessment during their last semester.
The candidate will submit a portfolio containing evidence of quality teaching and professionalism. This will have to demonstrate the 24 competencies that are aligned with Danielson’s Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching and INTASC.
The portfolio will be evaluated by the RESA faculty, and the candidate must score proficient on each competency.
When the candidate has successfully met all the program requirements and passed the EPiC evaluation, Chattahoochee-Flint RESA will recommend the candidate for certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) reporting system.
The candidate's school system must submit another application with the GaTAPP completion documents to the PSC in order to have the candidate’s certificate converted from a Provisional (BT) to a Clear, Renewable (IT5).
