End-of-Course (EOC) Exams are used to sample a student's knowledge of subject-related concepts as specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and to provide a global estimate of the student’s mastery of the material in a particular content area.

EOC Exams are mandatory in North Carolina. Students enrolled in English II, Math 1, Math 3, and Biology must take the exam to receive credit for the course. The state does not permit "opting out" and the score counts for 20% of the final grade.
