The Greenwood Heritage Society is the governing body of the Museum, Archives and Visitor Centre.
The Greenwood Museum Association was formed on June 29, 1967 by a group of citizens realizing the needs to preserve the history of Greenwood. The Association was incorporated under the Societies Act on December 4, 1967 as an educational non-profit society for the preservation of the artifacts and the history.
The City of Greenwood gave the Association space to set up a Museum in the City Hall. More space was eventually needed and the current Museum location officially opened May 8, 1982. The Museum offers interesting displays, tours of the courthouse & jail, a gift shop, books, and access to the Archives. Various publications, maps, brochures, a self-guided Heritage Walking tour & Phoenix driving tour are available in the Visitor Centre.
