Looking for more ways to incorporate Mindfulness? Check out the many options for calming and coping on the CCSD Virtual Calming Room site! You could even create a choice board for your student and/or create a small kit, like the one pictured on the left!
Here's a list of some books for several different categories of SEL learning that you can read with your student at home and over breaks! You can always Google different activities to pair with each book if your student needs a little more support.
I created this brief resource for parents to review related to their student's Internet safety and good digital citizenship.
CCSD partners with the SC Office of Mental Health (OMH) to provide therapy services in our school building once a week. They primarily work with Medicare/Medicaid, but can provide more information after the referral. If you feel that your student needs help, please reach out to me for a referral to OMH.
Effective April 28, 2025, Act No. 3 of 2025 established the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, which consists of the Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, the Office of Mental Health, and the Office of Substance Use Services. BHDD Office of Mental Health is now the Office of Mental Health.
CCSD now partners with MUSC's School Based Behavioral Health department to provide school-based teleheath therapy. Please reach out to me for a referral to this program. They work with a wide range of insurances and can provide more information on pricing after the referral.
We partner with Bridges of Hope, a community non-profit, to provide a grief group for our kids who have lost an important relative. Our groups, known as the Sand Dollar Club, are led by trained community members.
April Steele (5th Grade), Jamie Seebold (4th Grade), and Meghan Beckham (1st Grade) let me run around with our Girls On The Run group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls two seasons each year. It's always a great place for young ladies to learn leadership, confidence, and empathy!
Whitesides is lucky enough to have several other supports available to students and families. The list includes:
BackPack Buddies: A bag of food that can go home with your student on Fridays if you are on the free or reduced lunch list. Please reach out to me if you are interested to see if we have the capacity to add your student(s).
We have a CCSD Employed Social Worker, meaning that she is not employed through DSS and can be a great resource for help with bills, food, etc. Our current Social Worker is Ms. Yungman; julia_yungman@charleston.k12.sc.us.
Want to stay up-to-date on all things Whitesides? Our librarian's assistant, Mrs. Asper, does a fabulous job of updating our school site found here:
