Expectations and procedures

Be Prepared. 

• Be on time to your Class . If you are not in the dance hallway by the time the bell rings you will be considered late.

• Dress properly. Students should be in SOA dance dress code see below. You will have 5 minutes in the beginning and the end of class. If you take more than 5 minutes you are considered late and a deduction of daily points will apply to your grade.

•  Have all materials when class starts… you won't be able to leave to go get something you are missing. 

Dress Code

•Women: Pink, black or flesh colored tights depending on dance style without holes. Black leotard, Ballet shoes,

•Men: Plain black dance pants, running/athletic tights no logos,  dance belt/compression shorts, plain white/black or grey form fitted shirt, no baggy clothes, Ballet shoes. No holes in shirts/pants. NO shorts over tights.

•Hair: All students, hair must be put up BEFORE entering classroom, away from neck/face,

•No Jewelry: dangling earrings, bracelets, fitbits, I-watches, necklaces, rings.

Absences

•Students will be responsible for retrieving that day’s work from Canvas. Make up work will also be posted in the notes section of PowerSchool. You have 1 week to make up any work, assessment or test/quiz.  After the week the zero will remain.  If this is an excused absence due to attending a dance related function, a reflection paper will be due a week from absence. 

Homework

•Students will hand in homework via canvas at the time stated on assignment. Anything handed in after that date and time   will be considered late. Homework that is more than a week late of due date will not be accepted. One point will be deducted for every day Homework is late. 

Grading and Participation 

•Each DAY  students will be assessed on the following: 

Total 10 points: Dress code, Preparation, Engagement, and Mastery of lesson objectives

Participation (physical and verbal) 40% 

Physical Assessments (during class & performances)   30%

Projects/Discussions/Reflections/Required Viewing   15%

Test/Quiz (written)  10%

Homework (logs and work given to complete outside of class time) 5 %

Tutoring/ office hours 

•For tutoring you must sign up in advance (at least two days ahead of time) to secure yourself a spot during the day.   

•Office hours are at the end of the day 2:00-3:00.

Logs

Dance Logs (*** New***)

• • All High school dance majors are required to practice in class concepts/technique/specific goal given by teacher. 

  • ALL grades must have a total of:  2 -3 hours per week.

  • You will log your hours using the dance log sheet to submit on canvas along with a 30 second video of you rehearsing, practicing something we learned or working on in class.

  • The video will also be submitted on canvas.

  • You can use your phone to record and upload to canvas or use canvas studio to then submit on the dance log assignment page.

 If you receive a 95 or higher at the end of a quarter you will NOT have to submit dance logs for the following quarter. EVERYONE will complete dance logs for quarter 1.

Logs are due every Monday at 2pm. Anything after is late.  One point off for each day it is late. After Friday Logs will NOT be accepted.
