• To be GT Endorsed, you must completed TWO graduate-level courses:

  • • EDU 591 - Nature & Needs of Gifted Learners (10 weeks)

    • EDU 592 - Intro to Curriculum & Instruction for Gifted Learners (10 weeks)

• Tuition is paid by CCSD through Title II funds. *Federal Funding is frozen, so we are in a holding pattern until Title II funds can be released. We are still collecting names and gathering the needs of schools as we are hoping for a timely release of funds. We will NOT be able to register teachers until Title II funding has been released. Teachers CANNOT count as serving students until they are enrolled in the GT Endorsement coursework.

• Please complete this Google Form with the name(s) of the teacher(s) for GT endorsement in the 25-26 school year.

• Details regarding registration, course dates, and course expectations are typically sent out at the end of August.

• Registration for the courses typically begin in September.

Summer SAIL is an engaging 3 week program that was created to continue to build our GT student’s higher level thinking and problem solving skills during the summer. Check out our Summer SAIL website!

• Who is eligible to attend?

  • • All Gifted & Talented state identified students are eligible.

    • The program is open to current 2nd, 3rd, & 4th grades (2025-2026), which means rising 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students (2026-2027). 

• What is the cost?

  • • The cost is $550.00. Bus transportation is available for an additional $100.00. As of now, Summer SAIL is fully funded through tuition, there are no scholarships available. 

• How do I know what classes will be offered?

  • • The classes are separated into rising 3rd/4th grades & rising 4th/5th grades. 

    • They are listed with descriptions on the Summer SAIL website.

• What if I want to teach in the Summer SAIL program?

  • • Every Summer SAIL teacher is required to fill out an application and complete an interview. This can be a phone interview or in person. We are always looking for new and innovative class ideas. 

    • If you have a class idea, please complete a proposal detailing your class and submit it to Elizabeth_Uptegrove@charleston.k12.sc.us. If there is an existing class in need of a teacher, we will send out an email to GT teachers first and then branch out. Feel free to reach out to Elizabeth_Uptegrove@charleston.k12.sc.us if you are interested. 

• How does registration work?

  • • Before registration is opened, a Summer SAIL announcement regarding registration will be posted on the  CCSD Gifted and Talented website. A district-wide automated phone call will be made to the families of all identified students before registration opens. Parents will complete the registration form; registrations will be processed in the order received based on time stamp. Parents will be notified of their child's placement on the enrolled Summer SAIL list once we have confirmed their eligibility. This confirmation email will include the directions for payment to secure your spot. 

    • We will begin placing enrolled students in Expeditions when their tuition is fully paid. Early payment gives your child a better chance of getting into the Expeditions they have requested. An additional email will confirm payment and Expedition placement.

5. Payment Deadline - after this date, we will begin to honor the waitlisted registrants in the order they were received.

• • • Registration usually opens in January or February.

• When is payment due?

  • • Payment is not due at the time of registration, and the date is determined based on when registration opens.. There are different ways to make payments: Revtrak or check/money order. There are payment plans available. Send check or money order to CCSD Gifted & Talented, 721 Wappoo Rd., Charleston, SC  29407.

• What if a student can’t attend the entire program?

  • • We would like students to attend the full program. If they need to miss days, it is permitted, but the cost of the program does not change. Since Summer SAIL is fully funded by tuition, we are not able to offer prorated amounts. Please consider only taking a spot if your child can participate the whole time. 

• How will the parents/guardians know if the student has been accepted?

  • • The Google Registration form will send a copy of the responses when successfully submitted. Parents/Guardians will be contacted via email with a confirmation of a spot for their explorer when registration closes. Additional payment information and Expedition choice assignments will be emailed as soon as possible.

    • If a spot is not available at the time of registration, parents/guardians will receive an email regarding waitlist placement within a week of registering. We will update the website and registration form to indicate the program is full and moved to a waitlist. 

    • Your child's Summer SAIL spot is not official until payment is received in full. We will send a follow-up email to notify you of receipt of payment. Because our program is fully funded by tuition, any spots left unpaid after the payment deadline will be offered to the next waitlisted student.  

• What does a day look like in  the program?

  • • 8:00-8:30- Arrival and breakfast

    • 8:30-9:00- Morning outdoor time and transition to AM Class.

    • 9:00-12- AM Class

    • 12:00-1:00- Lunch and Recess

    • 1:00-4:00- PM Class

    • 4:00- Dismissal
