Becoming a Referee

Becoming a recreational referee is a great way to be involved in the game of soccer and to learn the rules, strategy, and tactics of the game. Being a referee also allows you to build confidence in yourself by taking on the role of authority at the match.

There are two types of referees in soccer. The Referee (sometimes referred to as the Center Referee) is the referee in charge of managing the match. One or two Assistant Referees (AR) assist the referee by watching for and signaling out-of-bound balls and fouls.

Referee Assignment Age Requirements

Referee assignments are based on the age of the referee and/or their grade in school. All referees must be at least 12 years old.
