On Tuesday 13th January at 1pm, Gallery Girls will be welcoming Verity Babbs to share the stories behind her illustrated new book, The History of Art in One Sentence. Come along to the AC for your chance to listen to this celebrated art historian, writer, presenter and comedian!
Verity graduated with a History of Art Degree from the University of Oxford and has written for the Guardian, RA Magazine and Artnet News. She has worked on filmed projects for the Tate, London Art Fair and the British Museum and is founder and host of the art-themed comedy event 'Art Laughs' which regularly takes place at the National Gallery. She was named one of BBC HistoryExtra's '30 Under 30' in 2024, and in 2025 published her debut book: The History of Art in One Sentence. This highly informative illustrated guide journeys through 50 key art movements across 500 years of history, answering ten questions for each in just one sentence at a time.

Stephen Kelman is an author, journalist and playwright. His debut novel Pigeon English was shortlisted for the Booker prize and is about a young Ghanaian boy living on a tough London estate who tries to investigate the murder of another boy on the estate.
