Thank you for your interest in the Cooling East Somerville AC Program. As of Friday, May 22, we are no longer accepting applications. We distributed 50 AC units in mid May and will be able to distribute 50 more by mid June. We received over 330 applications and thank you for your understanding of our limited resources.
If you applied for an AC, please read the following information carefully.
If you applied for an AC and do not hear from us by Friday, June 12, it means we unfortunately will not be able to provide you with an AC this summer.
We use multiple criteria to determine who receives an AC based on the information you provided in your application – including self-attested financial need, risk factors for heat-related illness (e.g. health conditions, age, pregnancy), living in East Somerville, and having a referral from a medical provider.
We know that everyone can benefit from having an AC, and we appreciate your understanding of the need to make these difficult decisions.
If you still need an AC, please consider these resources.
MAMAS (Mutual Aid for Medford & Somerville) facilitates getting ACs from people who have one to people who need one. Contact MAMAS at (339) 545-1315 or askyourMAMAS@gmail.com, and see the flyers here.
Learn about how to protect yourself from extreme heat and lower your summer utility costs. Check out our pamphlets here.
We look forward to sharing other Cooling East Somerville initiatives this summer and fall! Thank you!
