A rigorous math education includes an equal emphasis on procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and applications. Real-world lessons from Mathalicious are an important component of math class, and are easy to integrate into any core curriculum.
We recommend using Mathalicious lessons at three points in an instructional unit: at the beginning to introduce the unit; in the middle of the unit; and at the end to culminate the unit. Introductory lessons are accessible to students without a formal understanding of the upcoming mathematics, and help set the stage for what's to come. Meanwhile, culminating lessons are typically more challenging and require students to have a stronger procedural and conceptual foundation.
