You will determine three pieces of long literature that you anticipate potentially using for FRQ3.
Directions: For each "Big Three" selection, you will use an index card (you already created these throughout the year) that addresses all major facets of the literature. You should already have your index cards completed, so this station is making the final choice of works you believe are going to be the most useful to you. You may only use novels, novellas, and dramas as potential FRQ3 Index cards will address each category listed below:
Title & Author
Point-of-View/Narrator →Who is telling the story?
First person, omniscient, limited, unreliable, etc.
Frame story, epistolary novel, bildungsroman, stream-of-consciousness, etc.
Setting → When and where does the piece take place?
Context → Was the piece affected by any major historical, social, political, scientific, etc. events?
Tone/Mood → Which emotions are evoked by the piece?
Author’s word choice, attitude
Environment created by language, setting, events, etc.
Movement → Does the piece belong to a certain literary movement?
Romantic, Post-Colonial, Modernism, Realism, Transcendentalism, Existential, etc.
Symbols/Motifs → Identify the symbol & address its significance
Theme(s) → Identify any major themes found throughout the piece
Major Characters → List main characters & provide a brief characterization for each
Memorable Quote(s) → Select a quote/quotes that speak to what you believe is the essence of the literary work
Summary → A brief summary that will help jog your memory of the piece come spring
Connections → Can you connect this piece to other literary works you have read?
