The Elusive Sophistication Point

Directions

• On a sheet of college ruled paper, students will read and take notes on the 30 slides provided below

  • 15 bullet point observations are required | Observations should be meaningful assertions that are helpful to your preparation for this element of the exam

  • When citing your bullet point notes, do follow your observation with the slide number you are referencing for easy access during later study sessions.

    • Example: "Both complexity and tension may exist between/among characters within a prose excerpt" (Slide 4).

• Consider the following questions:

  • What are you planning on implementing in your own writing?

  • What sub-category of the sophistication point do you feel is easiest for you to earn? Why?

  • How can you aim to work towards the sophistication point while also benefitting in Rows A & B of the FRQ scoring rubric?
