Prose & Poetry FRQs
Directions
You will be given a printed copy of a Prose & Poetry passage taken from AP Central.
Students may use the printed copy to write answers OR a sheet of college ruled paper
For each passage, you are expected to do the following two steps in 7 minutes or less:
Annotate the prompt, rephrasing what the FRQ asks of you, the writer
Make annotations in the excerpt itself
Identify literary techniques & devices within the passage | Analysis & interpretation of the text | Characterization | Potential tensions
At your own pace, write 3 ways in which you would approach the prompt
This will be 3 thesis possibilities addressing how you would answer the prompt in question -- essentially a set rough theses! This can be hand written at the bottom of the passage.
Example: Delia Owens' use of colloquial diction in the title of her novel, Where the Crawdads Sing reinforces the significance of geographical setting in the bildungsroman.
Highlight the thesis statement that you believe is your strongest!
