This headband was found at Roonka, South Australia.
It is made from wallaby teeth. Instead of boring a hole into each tooth, they have been 'notched'. This would have helped to secure the ornament to the owner's head.
Archaeologists believe that this method of 'notching' was an advancement on the 7000 year old necklace in our case study at Cooma.
The headband was found on a man. He also had a skin cloak that was fastened with bone pins and the paws of an animal pelt at the shoulder.
A child was buried with him. The child wore a bird skull pendant and a reptile vertebrae necklace. The child's feet had been stained with ochre.
