Learning and studying at home can be challenging and we must remember to save time for ourselves so we can relax, reflect and recuperate. On this page we have put together some ideas and resources that can be used to practice mindfulness and support your wellbeing.
This page has been made in collaboration with Mary Stanley (2020 Wellbeing Prefect).
The 5 ways to wellbeing are a scientifically proven method to staying happy and healthy in our daily lives. Click on the headings to see some ways you can incorporate this into your time at home, or visit https://www.allright.org.nz/get-started for more information. Check out the Boredom Busters for more ideas on how to keep yourself occupied, happy, and thriving this term.
Your time, your words, your presence
Give your time to talk to a friend/family member, ask how they are doing.
Help others (do the dishes, help with the cooking, tutor someone).
Be present (spend time with your family, connect)
Remember the simple things that give you joy
Step back from your work sometimes and be mindful (meditate, think of things you are grateful for, do breathing exercises etc.)
Think about/do things that bring you joy (reading, drawing, playing music)
Spend time outside and/or away from screens
Allow yourself to just do nothing sometimes
Do what you can, enjoy what you do, move your mood
Go outside for a walk/run (by yourself or with people in your household)
Do an at home workout
Dance in the living room
Keep your blood pumping (physical exercise has a direct link with mental wellbeing)
Embrace new experiences, see opportunities, surprise yourself
We are (hopefully) keeping up with our learning at home, so keep occupied by doing this, but also learn in other ways
Develop a new skill (learn to knit, sew, touch type, meditate, do yoga)
Continue to connect and learn more about other people
Create a new tradition
Talk and listen, be there, feel connected
Video-chat/message your friends
Have a family game night
Watch a movie or listen to music with your family
Have a laugh with someone
Make a collaborative playlist so you can listen to music with people over distance.
While not under the main 5 ways, here are some other things that are beneficial for your wellbeing
Embracing your culture
Embracing your faith
Enjoying nature
Eating well and staying hydrated
