Being a Successful Learner at Home
How can we be successful learners away from school?
Whether you are learning at school or at home you are learning as part of the St John the Apostle Primary School Community.
At St John's we always:
Respect Others
Respect Self, and
Respect the Environment
We know a lot of ways to do this at school. How do we keep doing this when we are learning away from our classroom , teacher and friends?
These posters help describe some of the ways we can keep being respectful, as part of our school community, even when we are learning at home.
You can print these out for home:
Remember, you are also required to follow the School ICT User Agreement whether you are at home or at school. For those in Years 3-6, make sure you remind yourself of what is expected of you.
What can I do if I feel stuck?
Sometimes you might feel very stuck and don't know what to do, or something might not be working.
It's okay! Everything is fine.
Use your helping hands to help you think of what to do next or find a person to help you.
Most importantly, if you are really stuck, just leave the task and do a different task. Your teacher will understand completely.
Celebrating positive learning
We still like to celebrate the great ways you show respect to others, yourself and the environment. We're going to tell you when you've been doing a great job in our Learning from Home activities. You are welcome to share your work with your teacher. You can send it by email or take a picture and send it through Seesaw or just bring it to show your teacher when you return to school.
We'll keep recording 'brag tag stickers' alongside your name. If you achieve 20 brag tag stickers then we'll still be congratulating you in the Newsletter and putting your photo on our Brag Tag Wall of Fame, even if you are ta home.
Being safe online
Learning online can lots be fun.
In Google Classrooms and Microsoft Teams we do our best to be safe with each other.
Sometimes we go to other places online and we need to be sure that we are safe during these times as well.
Click on the superhero here to go to a new website where you can learn about how to make sure you are safe online. It has a lot of fun games and videos to help you learn.
Video Meetings
Sometimes you will need to have a video conference with your teacher. It will be as a class or in a small group. It's an important way of keeping connected to everyone and checking you are on the right track with your learning.
You will use MS Teams to video conference. Your teacher will organise when and how this will happen.
There are a few rules to follow when you video conference with anyone in our school. These rules help you to be respectful, help people to respect you and also make sure information about you and your family remains private. They help you to make the most of your chance to see and talk together.
Rules for videoconferencing on MS Teams:
Be dressed appropriately. No pyjamas. Try your school polo shirt.
Tell Mum or Dad that you are videoconferencing. Tell them when you finish.
Be in a part of the house where mum or dad can hear or see you.
Speak and join in in the same way you would at school. Take turns. Be polite.
Mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
Blur your background if you can, or sit in a space that doesn't show too much about your family in the background.
Have all of the equipment you need to join in.
At the end, thank your teacher and everyone for joining in.
How to get on to a video conference
This video is not uploaded as we won't be having MS Teams video meetings during Home Learning.
