2026 Cedar Falls Cross Country
RUNNING + COMMUNITY + TEAMWORK
Voluntary Off-Season Training: Starts Monday, June 8th
The CF team meets Monday through Saturday at 7 a.m. from Pfeiffer Park (location may change, especially for Saturdays). Scott Gall is going to help lead summer runs. The boys can run with their phone, but they will want a waist carrier for their phone. Coach Gall and Coach Egan are out on the trails with groups. All athletes are instructed to run in groups and follow the prescribed route. There is a waiver to complete. Waivers will be available on the first day for athletes to take. Please return during the first week
Please do not email coaches for absences during voluntary summer runs as attendance is never taken.
Hilltoppers is a separate program. It is preferred that Cedar Falls team members run in the mornings. If your summer schedule only allows you to do Hilltoppers, that is a great option. Athletes should NOT do both the high school program and Hilltoppers on the same day.
For freshmen, the focus is on consistent running through the summer with gradual introduction of workouts to build a solid foundation for the fall. We use mileage plans that increase from year to year as athletes go through the program. Athletes will receive a mileage plan at the team meetings and the plans will be reviewed during the first week so athletes know how to use the chart. It is recommended most freshmen to start with plan 2. If athletes have a day off on their running schedule, they should not attend the morning run.
If you have concerns about your runner managing 2-3 continuous, easy miles at the start of the summer, please let a coach know so adjustments can be made.
For parents who do drop-off: 9th graders are done with their runs and post-run activity within an hour. It is typical for some groups to sit at the park and talk afterwards. On Fridays, the boys do an abbreviated run and then play ultimate. You can pick up whenever on Fridays. Some Fridays, there are games going until 8:45. If transportation is an issue, please let a coach know as we have upperclassmen who may be able to pick up if you are comfortable with that arrangement.
